Something About Horror Movies

There is something about horror movies that just doesn’t sit well with me. You know that scripture which says God has not given us the spirit of fear…? Well, I choose to guard my mind and eyes and heart and ears with all diligence and not be the one giving myself the spirit of fear. Like damn!!! I don’t how people who watch horror movies do it, but honestly, I want to have a good night’s sleep every single day of my life- no fears, no anxiety, just a peaceful sleep with probably a smile on my face.

So, I sat back yesterday and made the design above depicting how some horror movie scenes turn out. Well, these days, they make it so clear and add great colors to it you wouldn’t even think the content is horrified by mere looking at the cover or hearing the movie title. Now, when I watch horror movies which sometimes I’m forced to because that’s what others are seeing or i’m just cajoled to see it, I go from having sleepless nights to having night mares to hearing voices, imagining things and just everything that could fill my mind with fear and restlessness. I can’t even begin to imagine how the casts embody such characters and if their own image scares them too. I made a short list of horror movies i’ve seen and can remember, but the first one on the list stands out because how many years later, I still see the images in my head and it gives me a lot of shiver. Here goes nothing:

  • HELLRAISER
  • The Conjuring
  • Scream
  • Dracula
  • Frankenstein
  • Twilight
  • Halloween
  • Resident Evil
  • Doctor Sleep
  • Saw
  • Jaws
  • The Exorcist… among many others.

Which of these movies have you seen? What is the scariest horror movie you’ve seen? Do you like horror movies or dread them like I do? What do you think about horror movies? What do you think about my cover image for the horror movie I will never ever produce?

  1. I have seen all of them from your list. Resident Evil doesn’t count because those movies suck. I am a fan of fantasy as well, so horror always sits well with me because it is in a sense… fantasy. Just a little more gore and scares. But I’ve been a horror fan for a long long time and may be deemed a fanatic over the genre.

    1. Wow! This is definitely a first. To think that you love horror movies this much… Good to know we share a little something in common from the list of horror movies. True too that Resident evil isn’t so horrified.

Thanks for reading and sharing your opinion.

    1. Hi May,
Thanks for your response and sincerity.
Sometimes, the scenes look too real to be fake. That’s why it scares us.

Good to know you also feel this way about horror movies.
      Thanks for sharing.
